Actcie
The Actcie was founded by Lieke Kuiper in 2014 with the idea of setting up a committee that would be committed to charity. We organize and promote all kinds of different activities that focus on volunteering. Our signature activity is Cooking for the Homeless. Every month we cook in a small group of five people for 45 to 50 homeless people from Amsterdam on the Marnixstraat at the Stoelenproject. It is always a big party to cook there with the volunteers involved. You work very hard all afternoon to put dinner on the table exactly at six o’clock. Afterwards we often receive applause for our efforts. That gives a lot of appreciation for the work we do. We have done this activity with the Actcie from the very beginning and it’s becoming more successful every year. In addition, we also organized a Meet & Eat with refugees, helping with the Retinoblastoma Patient Day in Kinderstad and we have even more activities planned. For example, the Meet & Eat with refugees is being changed into a Meet & Greet so that we can attract and take on more people. We work hard with other agencies to increase our activities, so that more students have the opportunity to volunteer with us.
Over the years, the Actcie has grown into a full-fledged committee. In the beginning it was a group of friends who thought it was important and fun to do more volunteer work. People who want to do volunteer work often encounter the same problem: you cannot do much work on your own. As is often said, many hands make light work. In addition, working in a group is much more fun! Now in the 2017/2018 school year we are a committee with eight members in total.
What makes the Actcie the Actcie? The most important thing about our members is that they have a lot to offer for society and that they also recognize the importance of contributing to this. The committee is always a pleasant group that has many ideas for making volunteer work great in Gyrinus. We all put a lot of time, energy and love into our activities, so that they become successful and worth repeating.
Because Gyrinus has grown in recent years, we notice that interest in the Actcie is growing. The goal of our committee is to make more Gyrinus members enthusiastic about volunteering. We hope that the growth in interest and enthusiasm for volunteer work will continue, so that the Actcie can continue to exist for as long as possible!
